Strata-G Judges First Virtual Science Fair!
A Strata-G team of 9 science and engineering staff members participated as judges in the 2020 Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair usually held at the University of Tennessee’s Thompson-Boling Arena. This was the 1st virtual SASEF Science Fair, and the Strata-G team judged 36 junior projects and 26 senior. A virtual awards ceremony will be held next week. Congratulations to SASEF for the successful event and to all who participated, especially the students. Thank you, Strata-G team, for applying your expertise as judges again this year.

The K-25 History Center officially opened at the former K-25 Site, now known as the East TN Technology Park. A large crowd, many of whom worked at K-25 before it closed in the mid-80s, gathered in the cold sunshine to hear officials from DOE, UCOR and the City of Oak Ridge praise the efforts of those former workers as well as the current workforce engaged in site cleanup, one of the largest and most complex in the DOE system and well on its way to closure. The museum is open the same hours as the American Museum of Science and Energy and is well worth a visit.

Strata-G and Pinnacle Join Forces to Aid KARM and the Great Schools Partnership. Pinnacle Bank and Strata-G made a joint donation to support KARM and the Great Schools Partnership. The donations will go directly to the most pressing needs of families and children in the Knoxville area. Strata-G recently was honored with the Dream Big Small Business of the Year award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The award came with a $25,000 prize, which Strata-G promised to donate to these two organizations. When Pinnacle leaders in Knoxville heard about this commitment, they decided to match the gift with another $25,000 to the same organizations.

An employee-led collaboration with one of our key customers, UCOR, collected more than 300 coats for Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) Coats for the Cold campaign this year. By partnering with UCOR, we were able to collect even more warm garments for KARM to distribute to people in need.

Strata-G celebrated the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year Dream Big Award on October 16. Dan Hurst, Strata-G President and CEO, said of the award, “We are honored by our selection as the Small Business of the Year Dream Big Award winner. It’s a testament to our professional staff of more than 230 scientists, engineers, health and safety experts, and project managers who practice our core values of integrity, service, and quality each day. We appreciate the U.S. Chamber’s recognition.” The award came with a check for $25,000 which Strata-G will invest into two of its existing outreach partners, KARM and Westview Community School.
