Strata-G Facility Manager Steve Mathes recently joined CEO Jim Blankenhorn for a conversation from ORNL’s Isotope Row, offering a look at the experience and responsibility behind supporting work in complex nuclear and radiological facilities.
Steve brings more than 30 years of experience in radiation protection, radiological controls, nuclear facility operations, environmental remediation, waste management, and decontamination and demolition. His career has taken him across several DOE and research facilities, including ORNL, K-25/K-27, Y-12, Mound Technology Center, SPRU, and Bear Creek Waste Disposal Facility.
Today, Steve supports UCOR’s Integrated Work Control Program as a Strata-G Facility Manager. His role includes approving work control documents, authorizing and releasing work, maintaining awareness of facility conditions, and helping ensure activities are performed in accordance with safety basis and procedural requirements.
