| PROJECT HISTORIES Support for Waste Tracking on the Oak Ridge
Reservation
Strata-G personnel have provided waste information tracking
support on the Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) since 1998. Strata-G has been involved in all
aspects of the Waste Information Management System, which is the complex system used since
the late 1990s for tracking hazardous, mixed, and low level waste for the three sites on
the ORR. Tasks include daily operations, maintenance, and development activities for the
database and supporting systems. As responsibilities for management of newly generated
waste transition from one Department of Energy (DOE) contractor to another, Strata-G
personnel are working with the various contractors and providing customized support.
Strata-G is assisting one DOE contractor by performing data quality analysis and review,
and developing and documenting processes to ensure that the information required to
support accelerated closure activities and disposition of over 25,000 waste items is
reliable and readily available. Strata-G is assisting another DOE contractor with the
development and implementation of an integrated site-wide waste tracking system tailored
specifically to its operational and data needs.
Pollution Prevention and
Environmental Management System Technical Support Project at Y-12 National Security
Complex
Strata-G is currently providing pollution prevention (P2)
and environmental management system (EMS) technical services to the prime contractor at
the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Within P2, Strata-G provides
support to a variety of awareness, documentation/reporting, and ad-hoc activities.
Strata-G personnel assist in completing the annual summary reporting, progress reporting,
plan updates, and awareness activities required by the Tennessee Hazardous Waste Reduction
Act (THWRA), and also in completing annual documentation required by the U.S. Department
of Energy (DOE), including the Annual Report on Waste Generation and Pollution Prevention
Progress, P2 accomplishment reporting, P2 site survey, affirmative procurement report, and
DOE P2 award nominations. Within the EMS activities, Strata-G provides EMS development,
implementation, training, and auditing support to integrate an EMS that conforms to the
ISO 14001 standard into the Y-12 Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS). Strata-G
personnel facilitate environmental planning activities to assist Y-12 teams to identify
environmental aspects, impacts, objectives and targets; develop EMS awareness materials
and maintain EMS data and reports for posting on the clients internal homepage;
conduct EMS awareness programs for Y-12 employee groups; develop and maintain web-based
EMS implementation training; develop and conduct EMS Lead Assessor classroom training; and
identify, review, and update EMS-related procedures. Additional EMS support includes
leading EMS Management Assessments, providing assessment reports, and serving as EMS
Subject Matter Expert for Independent Assessments. |
