Dan Hurst

President, Founder

Dan Hurst is the President and Founder of Strata-G.  Dan is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and received commendations as a Division Officer and Instructor in the Naval Nuclear Power Program.  He has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Tennessee, where he served as Industry Advisor to the Alumni Council and is the 2007 recipient of the Biosystems Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award.

With more than twenty years of nuclear and environmental experience, Dan has provided technical consulting in the areas of low level and mixed waste characterization and managed senior technical personnel that developed environmental management systems and performed pollution prevention activities and waste generator services for numerous Department of Energy and commercial clients. Dan initiated Strata-G’s active community outreach program, which won the 2007 Innovation Valley Navigator Award by providing financial support and recurring opportunities throughout the year for Strata-G employees to serve their communities.

Darrell Daugherty

Executive Vice President

Darrell Daugherty is Executive Vice President of Strata-G. Darrell has a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.

Darrell has more than twenty years experience of safely and compliantly administering waste characterization, certification, generator services, and acceptance programs in accordance with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Order 435.1; conducting strategic and long-range waste management planning for DOE Oak Ridge sites; managing special projects; shipping hazardous, low-level radioactive, and mixed waste; and operating and closing waste facilities – all with ZERO accidents, ZERO non-compliances, and ZERO transportation violations.

In keeping with Strata-G’s commitment to Community Outreach, Darrell is heavily involved with Habitat for Humanity as well as other Strata-G interests through Knox Area Rescue Ministries, the Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair, and the Adopt-a-Highway program. He serves on the Board of Directors for Aid to Distressed Families in Appalachian Counties, an independent non-profit agency serving the diverse charitable needs of the residents of Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Morgan, Roane and Scott counties in Tennessee.

John Patterson

Vice President

John Patterson is a Vice President and former Director of the Engineering, Waste Management and Transportation Divisions of Strata-G. John leads Strata-G recruitment, business development and technical work across the DOE Complex including support to DOE Headquarters in Washington DC. John has a Bachelor’s Degree Agricultural Engineering Technology from the University of Delaware and Master’s Degree in Engineering Management from George Washington University where he graduated with Commendations.

With more than twenty years of experience in the nuclear, petroleum and environmental fields, John’s expertise is in providing strategic regulatory, D&D, and waste management services. His career started with Chicago Bridge & Iron working refinery turnarounds before becoming a DOE Federal employee in the new DOE Environmental Management Program. John provided programmatic and technical support to the Fernald, Weldon Spring and FUSRAP Programs while also taking on assignments revising DOE Orders, interfacing with the DNFSB and numerous stakeholders groups of the Department. John was the Strategy and Integration lead with Bechtel Jacobs Company planning the activities of a large waste operations and legacy waste program. His expertise in waste disposal led to an assignment as the Waste Acceptance Criteria Manager for the Oak Ridge CERCLA disposal facility. John joined Strata-G in 2004 and has supported projects in Oak Ridge, Paducah, and Portsmouth and numerous commercial customers.
