Dan Hurst, the president of Strata-G, LLC, was recently awarded the University of Tennessee Bio-systems Engineering Distinguished Alumni Award for 2007. The award is granted through the University of Tennessee's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

The award is presented annually to a graduate for outstanding achievement in academic or corporate community. Recipients are considered to have brought distinction to themselves and the University of Tennessee. Hurst was recognized for his business success and community involvement.

"It is very humbling to be chosen for this award," said Hurst, in a press release.

"It is a great honor to be singled out from the many graduates that have come through the department."

Hurst is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and received commendations as a division officer and instructor in the Navel Nuclear Power Program. Hurst has a master's degree in environmental engineering and a bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering from UT, where he served as industry advisor to the Alumni Council. He also serves on the boards of Knox Area Rescue Ministries, the Southern Appalachian Science and Engineering Fair, and West Knox Utilities District.
