Green Chemistry & Engineering

Strata-G’s Green Chemistry and Green Engineering services provide a framework for promoting sustainability into a wide diversity of activities that involve the manufacture and use of chemicals.   Life cycle assessments (LCA) are used as a technique to assess environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product’s life from-cradle-to-grave (i.e., from raw material extraction through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair and maintenance, and disposal or recycling).

Many of Strata-G’s existing and developing services to our industrial clients fall within the guiding principles of green chemistry and green engineering by identifying ways of eliminating or reducing wastes, conserving energy consumption, promoting use of renewable fuels and feedstocks, and applying unique solutions to common environmental problems.  Our technically diverse and experienced staff supports programs at Department of Energy facilities that apply these principles on an on-going day-to-day basis.

Strata-G also offers similar assistance to our commercial clients on a variety of projects that utilize our chemical engineering and energy management expertise.  Related services include:

  • Implementing environmentally preferred products programs
  • Supporting clients in obtaining recognized sustainable products certifications
  • Seeking deployment of technologies that support environmental stewardship and sustainability
  • Evaluating alternatives feedstock supplies and processes for biofuels applications

Past Project Highlights

  • A process feasibility assessment and cost evaluation was conducted for a proposed cellulosic ethanol production facility based on a variety of feed stocks.  Evaluation included transportation logistics, feed stock pretreatment processing alternatives, and cogeneration operations for process residuals.
  • Strata-G provides criteria for deriving greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the World Resource Institute (WRI) and World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) GHG Protocol from an energy assessment of a variety of industrial operations for a client seeking a sustainable products certification.  Service also includes providing third party verification that GHG emission calculations are consistent with the required certification criteria.

Success begins with Strategy
